Boom Boxes for IR Sweeps
28. Jun 2010 at 03:06

The recommended Sony Boom Boxes, CFD-G70 and CFD-G500 are no longer available. Can the Sony CFD-G700 or CFD-G505 work or do I need new sweep files?
thx, JT

It must be a Monday Morning as I don't understand the question (overindulged yesterday).
You can make sweep tones easily enough in your stereo editor.
Failing that, drop me a PM with specs of your sweep and I will make you some.

You can try the other sony boomboxes you mentioned. Then when you have recorded the sweep, process with the boombox make up cureve and without and then listen and decide which IR you find most suitable for your practice.

This is how it works best, try to find the best speaker & amp configuration you can, if it needs to be portable a boombox will do (make sure all mega super heavy bass and eq settings are OFF!). Then playback the sweep files and record it.
Then process these recordings twice with the Altiverb preprocessor. Once with no equalization, and one with the boombox make up. Then load both sets in Altiverb and then listen to both to find out what works best for you.

I hope this helps.
