This issue's headlines include the brand new support for non-Accel DSP chips in the TDM version of Altiverb 6 XL and a report about our first impulse response recording expedition to India.

We hope you enjoy.

Non-Accel chip support in TDM version for Pro Tools HD
July 13, 2007

If you haven't done so already, now is the time to upgrade to Altiverb 6 XL. The Altiverb TDM version for Pro Tools now supports all HD chips: Accel, non-Accel, and all expansion chassis for Pro Tools HD systems.

This means you can now use your non-Accel chips on your PCI Core/Processor, PCI Accel and PCIe Core/Accel boards to generate convolution reverb. As an example: a 1.5 second (mono-in) stereo-out reverb uses two non-Accel chips. Accel chips do even better: a single Accel chip will give you 2.1 seconds of reverb. If you want to know how much 2.1 seconds of reverb is, please check our little example here:

And if you want to read the full specs, please open or download this pdf. If you have Altiverb 6 XL already, this upgrade is free, get your download here. For registered Altiverb 5 HTDM users, the upgrade to Altiverb 6 XL is just $100 in case you have purchased your version 5 after November 10, 2005. Otherwise it's $129. If you are a registered user of an earlier version of Altiverb, our on-line store will calculate your upgrade price automatically, but your reseller can also advice you on your upgrade price.

The TDM version of the Altiverb 6.1 XL runs on Pro Tools HD systems from version 6.9 up.
If you rely on Altiverb 5 HTDM, do not upgrade, Pro Tools nor Altiverb supports HTDM as a plug-in format in their latest versions.

Indian sampling expedition

On August 20 2005, a letter reached Audio Ease HQ. It said:

"Dear Sir, I would like to enlighten you that since you have captured the greatest impulses and have made plugins with the best of reverbs. I thereby would urge you to build a plugin with perhaps the richest ever reverbs that any one has ever heard. Hold your heart ...I really mean what I say. As you are aware India is a Country that has rich heritage monuments & these buildings are among the wonders of the world. The monuments have been built with great acoustic conditions & have examples of genius brilliant mathematics of sound reverberations and acoustic conditions.. In eyes and ears of an Audio engineer It could only be the GOL GUMBZ of Bijapur in INDIA as an acoustic wonder of the world which has the richest acoustic reverb ever in the universe."

Since March we were happy to release a collection of aircraft, and the royal opera of Sweden. Speakerphone and Snapper, what's the wait?

Believe us, we feel the same way. Since first shown at NAMM, these products have both undergone major overhauls here at Audio Ease. Our way of developing sometimes involves drastic changes in direction as we go. It means we sometimes throw out a lot of work, work that has never seen a release, just because we get a better idea.

However, we can tell you that we are very pleased with the progress we have made in the past two months on both Speakerphone and Snapper. In fact, Speakerphone is now close to beta testing. And we are quite confident that you will find the result well worth waiting for.
