BarbaBatch comes with four complementary utilities:
- Batch file renaming using 9 different algorithms: NameIt
- Batch file moving and version control: MoveIt
- Batch merging of SoundDesigner II files: JoinIt
- Renaming regions within a file using a text file: AffixIt
What is NameIt ?
NameIt is a batch file-renamer, with special features for the renaming of sound files.
What is a batch ?
Batch - a number or quantity of things produced at one time or to be taken as a set (Websters Dictionary).
What is a batch file renamer and what do I use it for?
Where the production of large quantities of files is involved, organization is often done using filenames. In these situations it is sometimes required that a group of files be renamed. This can be done using the Finder, by hand, one by one, but then again, this tedious work can now be left to NameIt.
Another application of NameIt would be when you have to convert a batch of, say, (Mac) AIFF to (PC) WAVE files with BarbaBatch. After the conversion you might want to change the original file names in PC-readable filenames. NameIt can recognize 5 different PC sound file types and will tag them with the proper PC suffix (.WAV , .VOC, .AIF, .AU, .SND)
NameIt has nine different algorithms to batch-rename files:

What is MoveIt ?
MoveIt is an application that moves files with names that are listed in a textfile from one folder to another.
What do I use MoveIt for?
Where the production of large quantities of files is involved, organization is often done using filenames. In these situations it is sometimes required that a group of files be moved from one folder to another. This can be done using the Finder, by hand, one by one, but then again, this tedious work can now be left to MoveIt.
When, for instance, a Multimedia production is managed from a database, it is possible to export from the database a text list of sound files that need to be normalized to -3 dB. In MoveIt you select this list, a folder where all your sound files are and move the files with listed names to another directory on the same disk.
This would make selecting inputfiles for batch processing in BarbaBatch much faster.

What is JoinIt ?
JoinIt is an application that copies separate Sound Designer II files back to back into one big Sound Designer II file, wherein region definitions selecting the original files are created, bearing the original files names.
What do I use JoinIt for?
You would want to use JoinIt when you want to perform a DSP process, say a Sound Designer plug-in, on a large amount of sound files.
In conjunction with BarbaBatch (to later extract the regions from the treated sound file) JoinIt supplies in a powerful tool to perform this task.
What is AffixIt ?
AffixIt accepts at its input a SoundDesigner II file with regions that need to be renamed and a text file with new regionnames.
It will rename the regions in the SoundDesigner II file according to the textfile.
