Quicktime supports the QDesign Basic encoder.
This version produces audio that cannot be played back by users that have Quicktime 3.0X or lower installed. The previous version of the QDesign Basic encoder, version 1.0, produces content that can be played back by both Quicktime 3.0 and 4.0.

QDesign Is a good choce for playback of streaming music on the web that should be supported by MAC operating systems dating back to 1997.

Support for the QDesign Music Pro Codec has been dropped since BarbaBatch v4. Please request support for it if you need it.
